About Mad Spark Coatings

Every project begins with a spark. We make it last.
My father was a master machinist. He made parts for heart valves and for water pumps two stories tall — the smallest things people depend on and the largest, both held to the same standard. I grew up around that, got hooked on metallurgy, and eventually on what happens at the very end of the process: the finish. I lost him in 2019. Starting this shop in February 2022 was my answer to that.

That's where the name comes from. It fits what comes through the door — a birdcage, a patio set somebody's grandmother bought in 1974, a frame welded together in a garage at two in the morning. Nobody brings us a piece of metal they're indifferent to. We strip, sandblast, and powder coat metal out of our shop in Midvale. Hundreds of colors, textures, and finishes, built to hold up against Utah's sun, salt, and temperature swings, without the solvents traditional paint requires.
Most of the job is prep, and it's the part nobody sees. A finish is only as good as the surface underneath it. That's where the time goes, and it's the standard I learned from watching my dad work.

Mission Statement:
Every project that comes through this shop belongs to somebody — a build they've been planning for years, a piece they refuse to throw out, a part their own customer is waiting on. That's the spark. Our job is to protect it.
We do that with thorough prep, finishes chosen for what Utah actually does to metal, and honest answers about what will and won't work. We measure ourselves on whether the piece still looks right in year five.
